Novel update

I just wanted you all to know I've finished editing the novel for the first time. I'm going back over the first few chapters and making some additional changes.  After that, I'll start submitting to publishers again.  Hopefully, by the end of this month or the beginning of next month.  I'll keep you all updated on what's going on.  Thanks for all your help and encouragement.

Silverdream & Bloodfire

Silverdream & Bloodfire will be the first book in a series called The Chronicles of Elydir.  This book is an introduction to the fantasy world of Elydir and will tell how my protagonist, Amanda, comes to be there.  She will also learn there's a reason for her being there.  But, is she prepared for it?

Amanda Jennings is a young disabled woman who is taking a college course in parapsychology because she has an interest in the supernatural.  She learns of an estate built by someone about two centuries ago because he had been having dreams of a fantasy world and he had begun to think they were more than dreams.  She rents the place in an attempt to find some journals that he supposedly wrote about this world.

At the same time, the countries of Elydir are being ruled by Emperor Aton and they are hoping for a prophesied savior to destroy him so they can live without being subjected to his evil.

What's New?

07/04/05--So far, I've written a prologue and 19 chapters for this book.  As of now, my protagonist Amanda has made it into Eyldir and the prince of one of the countries has been transported to the real world, each by doing a ritual.  Amanda was reciting the Silverdream ritual from a journal she'd found.  The prince was reciting the Bloodfire ritual to determine if he was the savior the people of Elydir were looking for.

I've got several subplots going on also.  The professor of the parapsychology class wants to take over the assignment from Amanda and receive notoriety for finding the journals.  He gets frustrated when the journals cannot be translated and there are other things that happen to keep him from getting what he wants.  Amanda is also having personal problems with a boyfriend since she moved onto the estate who becomes a little controlling.  He thinks her project is silly and wants her to forget about it.  There's also an Elven princess who is being held by the emperor of Elydir.  Attempts have been made to rescue her that have been unsuccessful so far.  Someone has offered to rescue her, but for a price that he has yet to name.

I will also let you know that things have changed for Amanda since she arrived in Elydir and for the prince since arriving in the real world.  Amanda is now able to walk for the first time.  Because of this, she doesn't want to return to the real world and the wheelchair.  However, Amanda does have to deal with some people there who are angry over the disappearance of the prince, especially his mother, Queen Talitha.  The prince, on the other hand, has suddenly discovered he is unable to walk since arriving in the real world.  Although I have not written any more on him up to this point, he will have a difficult time adjusting to this and also to the fact that he has no powers here.  The prince also will have to deal with the professor who wants to use him.

07/26/05--I've finished chapter 20 now.  In this chapter, Amanda learns how to ride a hequbella, which is the animal people of Elydir use like a horse, and takes a trip with the High Priest and Grand Sorcerer, Kantis.  She doesn't completely discover why Kantis wants to take this trip until the end of the chapter.

08/13/05--As of the 11th, I've completed chapters 21 and 22.  Both of these chapters concern Prince Kelvan who is in the real world now.  He has had a hard time learning to accept and deal with being unable to walk. But, he has found help with two of Amanda's friends, Jack and Larry.  At first, Dr. Stevenson, the parapsychology professor, was friendly.  But, when he wasn't getting the information he wanted, the professor became nasty.  Kelvan was able to escape with help from Jack and was able to take one of the journals with him, hoping that it would have a spell or ritual that would cause him to go back home.  But, will it?

10/19/05--I've finished chapters 23 and 24 now.  In these chapters, Amanda visits the High Priest's estate.  She meets Kantis' family and learns more about him.  The High Priest also looks through several books on prophesy and discovers whether or not Amanda is the Coritus, the one who will rid Elydir of the emperor.  Kantis and his family hope that she is but Amanda is scared, especially when she learns that one of the emperor's advisors is a witch who almost killed Kantis.  Amanda wonders that, if she really is the Coritus, how can she be expected to go up against that kind of power?

01/01/06—Happy New Year everybody!  To bring you up to date on the novel, chapters 25 and 26 are finished and I’m in the middle of chapter 27 now.  In this one, Prince Kelvan has been at Jack’s place for two months.  He asks Jack to take him back to the estate.  He wants to go back because he thinks he’s found a spell to communicate with someone over a great distance using a mirror.  He’s tried a mirror in Jack’s house and it didn’t work.  Jack thinks Kelvan is nuts.  Jack is sure that Stevenson is watching the estate, waiting for them to return.  But, Jack and Kelvan discover that the professor has been watching Jack’s place on the day they’re out for a while.  So, with Larry’s help, Jack and Kelvan go back to the estate.  Will Kelvan accomplish the spell?  And, if he does, what’s he going to find?

06/24/06--Okay everbody.  I know you've been wondering if I was going to let you know what's happening with Amanda (or Amen-Jen as she's now called in Elydir) and Prince Kelvan.  I've finished chapter 28 and I'm almost finished with 29 now.  Prince Kelvan was able to work the spell in the mirror but, instead of reaching Lord Kantis or Eliazon (his three-year-old pet red dragon) as he had expected, he found Amanda.  She was able to see and hear him, Jack and Larry calling her.  But, before she could respond, she was attacked by someone.  Eliazon showed up and took care of the attacker but not before Amanda was stabbed.  Kelvan had Eliazon take Amanda to Oxan-Ren, the Elven healer they had visited earlier.  Amanda stayed at the healer's place getting well.  She wondered who her attacker was and why he wanted to hurt her.  With the healer's help, Amanda was able to master the Krycus.  With Eliazon's help, she learned to read people's thoughts without them knowing it.  But, an incident caused her to want to leave the healer's home quickly, to get her task as the Coritus done and rid Elydir of Aton and Hagah (the witch who is the emperor's advisor) before they can hurt anymore people.  But, Amanda can't help thinking if she can do this and what's going to try to stop her.

10/14/06--Well, everybody, it's finally done.  Silverdream & Bloodfire is now finished.  I have enjoyed writing this a lot and it couldn't have been done without the help and encouragement of family and friends (You know who you are).  Anyway, now comes the fun part.  At least that's what I was told.  I've been looking up publishers to see what their guidelines are so I'll know what to send with the manuscript and how they want it sent.  Wish me luck everybody.  I'll keep you up to date on how things go.
